|

I have Synopsis on my computer at work, and the lab admin needed to update some files today -- so I shut down Synopsis and all the other programs running and let him update files. The files updated were specific to a JAVA application and to MS Visual Basic 6.0 redistribution files for apps written in VB6.0
At this point Synopsis will only go to the startup screen, then stops running completely when I press the Continue button to enter the application.
I had installed .Net 2.0 with no problem just after Codemorphis announced that Synopsis has been tested on .Net 2.0 successfully.
Many times simply reinstalling an application is a quick cure for whatever problem has arisen, but when trying to reinstall Synopsis onto the same computer I get the following error: .Net 1.1 Framework Not Installed.
I uninstalled .Net 2.0, 1.1, and 1.1 service pack.
I rebooted
I reinstalled .Net 1.1 -- but not the service pack, and then rebooted.
I DID NOT reinstall Sysnopsis, but just tried starting the application after reinstalling .Net 1.1 and rebooting.
Now Synopsis works
Hope this helps anyone with any similar errors & symptoms. |

mforkner,
At what point in invocation do you get the message "Net 1.1 Framework Not Installed." ? Is it before you see the license activation window or after you click on the Continue button in that window?
You mention that you were able to run Synopsis on .NET 2.0 in the past with no problem but that when that your lab admin installed JAVA and VB update files, it stopped working.
So this sounds like the problem is with these updates, whatever they may be and not with .NET 2.0 and Synopsis. These updates may have been interfering with .NET 2.0 but not .NET 1.1. So when you uninstalled .NET 2.0, the MS platform resumed functioning properly, allowing Synopsis to run.
Can you identify the exact updates that your lab admin installed?

".Net 1.1 Framework Not Installed." came up before the license window just after starting Synopsis.
It is when I downloaded the Synopsis install file from my account page and tried to reinstall Synopsis. I had not transferred or removed the license, nor had I uninstalled Synopsis -- just was trying to reinstall Synopsis on top of its self.
I had installed .Net 1.1 and the service pack for 1.1, then installed .Net 2.0 a couple months later... no problem.
The JAVA files were only for an upgrade of a Tivoli tool I use, and the VB files were the VB 6.0 runtime files... I got the link from my lab admin >>
Visual Basic 6.0 SP5: Run-Time Redistribution Pack (vbrun60sp5.exe)
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=bf9a24f9-b5c5-48f4-8edd-cdf2d29a79d5&DisplayLang=en
So it was after this file update that I would start Synopsis, and after pressing the Continue button that the application would terminate with no errors... just unload from memory. I opened the Task Manager and was watching the Applications tab -- I could see - Synopsis 1.1 - in the pane, then when I pressed the Continue button the application would stop and disappear from Task Manager.
Regards,

Thanks for your detailed answer.
From what you explain, it seems that the VB 6.0 update interferes with .NET 2.0, preventing the Synopsis licensing from running. We'll investigate this.
Thanks for your post. |
